Sail Karlskrona 2011

Sail Karlskrona or Sailet is a local maritime-themed festival that takes place in August every year. Traditionally, many sailing vessels from other countries would visit Karlskrona and park alongside the dockyard.

Much to our disappointment, we didn't see any large sailing ships this year. A Swedish friend told me that the number of sailing boats visiting during Sailet has decreased significantly and in recent years, the festival is more about food, beer, roadside stalls and games for children.

Still, it was a great event, especially for families with children. There was a pirate-themed carnival where many fun and simple games were organized for the children. A big outdoor stage was set up by the sea and local singers were scheduled to perform there every hour. There were also many stalls set up selling food, drinks and clothes.

The weather is getting colder so this is probably our last opportunity this year to be out in the sun enjoying our drinks, food and live music by the sea!
